Amit Singh talks about Shuttl's rollercoaster ride of disrupting office commute
We often discuss our fundamental needs as “Roti, Kapda aur Makaan” (food, clothing, and shelter) but there's a fourth essential need: transportation.
One of the largest market opportunities within the transportation sector lies in daily office commutes. The sheer size of the daily commuter market has led the government to invest billions of dollars in building metro systems in major cities.
This is also the market that Gurugram-based startup Shuttl was chasing.
Shuttl aimed to cater to commuters who avoided expensive taxi services and unreliable public transport.
Shuttl was like a middle ground – not as pricey as a taxi, but not as packed as a bus. They were safer, a more cost-efficient solution, leveraging technology and analytics to streamline the process.
With over $120 million in funding, they were on the brink of transforming the industry before the pandemic shifted their trajectory, ultimately culminating in their acquisition by travel-tech unicorn Chalo.
And this makes its journey interesting!
