Building India's 911 | StanPlus
In the West, a lot of problems faced by the common man are solved by the government. Whereas in India, it is enterprising startups that are solving problems for Indians at scale.
In this conversation, I talked to Prabhdeep Singh, founder of StanPlus, a Hyderabad-based emergency care startup that is solving the problem of access to ambulances.
An MBA graduate from the prestigious B-school, INSEAD France, Prabhdeep has worked in several pharmaceutical companies like Glenmark and Ranbaxy before becoming an entrepreneur in 2016. In his career, he has led several important projects which include some of the biggest launches in the Indian Pharmaceutical market.
In the West, accessing an ambulance is as easy as dialing 911 and getting one at the doorstep within a few minutes. But in India, that’s hardly the case. You may not get an ambulance on time.
Thousands of lives are lost every day due to delays in accessing ambulances on time. Even though the country has identified the gaps in the medical infrastructure post the second wave of COVID-19, India can save over 20% of patients suffering cardiac arrest every year if ambulances/ first aid care facilities reach them in a timely manner.
StanPlus aims to make ambulances available anywhere in the country within 10 minutes, free of cost. It is creating a quality fleet to increase the golden hour response time through technology, upskilling, and standardization of medical infrastructure. Backed by a fleet of over 3,000 ambulances that work 24/7, Stanplus, is constantly looking for faster ways to strengthen the Emergency Response Infrastructure in the country.
In this fascinating conversation, Prabhdeep talks about the unique challenges of building in the healthcare space in India, some of the smart decisions he took around following an asset-light approach, and how he scaled StanPlus.
